Since being a little child, I have loved getting dressed up in costumes. When I would watch cartoons, the costumes of the characters were one of the things which held my attention most. A memorable scene for me comes from watching Sailor Moon. The main characters transform from their everyday clothes into their superhero clothing in the scene, and the visuals are beautifully done. The transformation is seamless, and the new clothing is beautifully attached to the bodies. I would like to replicate my favorite cartoon characters and dress up just like they do in their superhero outfits.
Dressing Up
The first concern I have is, of course, preparing the costume. The costume that I’m thinking of is the classic Sailor Moon costume from her official transformation. It includes a lot of elements, as well as a unique hairstyle. First off, we have a tight white shirt, then a blue pleated skirt, and some decorative elements. Then we have knee-high red boots with white lining. Finally, the hair is tied up into two ponytails with two buns on top and has red elements of decoration on them.
Sourcing The Costume
I have a lot of questions regarding the costume. I’m prepared to make it on my own instead of buying ready-made things, but I wondered if there are specialized shops where I can get an idea about how they are made professionally. Also, I would be happy to get some contacts from fan shops that sell this type of costume clothing, not for Halloween.
Getting In Touch With Fans
The second concern I have is getting to be part of a community. My love for Sailor Moon is not shared by any of my friends, but I would like to meet like-minded people who share a love for the series. It would be great to join a forum of some sort where I can get to know some fans. I could share my costume concerns with them and get some advice. Perhaps someone has an old costume they are willing to share for a makeover.
Applying For The Festival
Sailor Moon is a series about friendship. In it, five girlfriends share typical day troubles and a war with evil when they transform into superheroes. It would be great to find like-minded fans I could join as part of a group of cosplayers. Perhaps there is a special application platform to which you can send a form and through which people communicate to find members for their cosplay show.
Documenting The Process
I would like to document the process of arranging my costume. Starting from:
- making stills of the videos to capture the outfit,
- to fabric buying and
- the sewing process.
I plan on taking photographs and making videos. Is there a specialized venue where such things can be put on display? I would love to share the experience with other people and perhaps uniqueadvice for my next project.
Getting Into New Comics
My other interest is getting into new comics. I would love to browse the festival for new themes to explore and see if anything holds my interest. I would like to know beforehand what will be presented, so I have time to attend those booths that spark my interest the most. Therefore, I am wondering if there is a list of announced presenters ahead of time to look through it. I am primarily interested in girl superheroes, but the content doesn’t come from Japan.
Excited To Be A Part Of ArchiAmerica
For me, a big part of feeling good is looking good. So there’s no better way to get your superhero vibe on than to dress up as one. For example, Of course, I would be excited to show up dressed as Sailor Mars (since I have long black hair) and be part of a fun group of Sailor Moon cosplayers. Looking forward to shopping for merchandise and filling a regular day with a favorite themed item from the series. Thank you for making this event free of charge and open to those who desire to enrich their everyday lives with cosplay.
